Penguin Great Ideas

September 16, 2009

I really like the cover designs of the books in this Penguin book series. We stumbled upon a couple of these guys in a nice bookstore in Istanbul a few weeks ago, but they were asking a little too much to warrant the purchase. They’re not much cheaper from the Penguin website, but it’s going on the things to buy when I’m rich list.

The Lava Planet

September 16, 2009

Interesting story about a newly discovered planet outside the solar system that could possibly, maybe be suitable for life — if it wasn’t totally engulfed in lava. That said, I for one would like to welcome our new lava overlords.

Heartbeats

September 12, 2009

Not sure why, but I’ve been revisiting Deep Cuts today (much to my sister’s shagrin) and I stumbled upon this video. I’m a sucker for these retro video mash-ups.

Also somewhat related: these guys are stylin’ but completely insane.

Ink Calendar

August 20, 2009

Check out this very cool calendar that fills each numbered day by itself. Unfortunately this is not something that you can buy, but rather an art work by Oscar Diaz. But hey, if you’re in Madrid, it’s apparently on display at CĂrculo de Bellas Artes through October.

I can’t believe that enough people text or talk on their phones while biking or skateboarding to warrant this new law, but there you go. And props to Philly for being first in anything.

New Obama Poster

August 10, 2009

Apparently someone has been going around LA and posting a different kind of Obama poster lately. I’m kind of impressed by the creativity (though the weak font use and odd red border suggest we may have an amatuer at work). I don’t really agree with the message, but am all for political discourse through street art, bring it on!

Weird Fishes

August 10, 2009

One of the more impressive uses of stop motion I’ve seen in a while, I really like the feel and look of this video, kind of makes me think of the the late ’90’s, I have no idea why.
